FHS Choir Newsletter- February-March edition copy

Welcome back!

Pictured above- Concert choir being “sad” we skipped Sight-reading one day! Haha!

We are incredibly proud of the work our students have done in Distance Learning this winter. It hasn’t been easy, but each day our students are awake, cameras on, music out and ready to sing! We are so grateful for their work ethic and desire to stay connected to each other.

While in full Distance Learning we have been learning new music. We’ll put that all together for another concert event which is detailed below.

As students prepare to come back to school, please help them remember their 3-ring binder for their music and a water bottle. We want students to feel prepared and healthy. We know this is still a stressful time, but we will do our best to make school seem as normal as possible and continue giving our students a place to belong. 🙂

Spring Concert- Thurs. March 18th

We are so pleased with what we’ve been able to accomplish this winter with our choirs. It is a challenging, vulnerable thing to sing alone for your whole household to hear. Students are then returning to school, all spaced out with masks, but we know these kids will be coming in eager to sing and we are so GRATEFUL. Our Spring Concert will certainly look different, but we are thrilled to share what we’ve been working on with friends and family.

We are viewing this more as an INFORMANCE again rather than a performance. The exciting part is we are allowed to have choirs sing for each other! We anticipate that MDH guidelines will allow us to have one choir perform. The concert will be live-streamed for families at home, but each choir will get to hear another choir and sing for each other LIVE!

We will also be having most of our choirs in their concert attire for the first time this year! The breakdown of needs per choir is as follows.

Men’s Choir: Choir t-shirt and jeans (just like the fall) Please send Mr. Ohnsorg an email ASAP if your child still needs to purchase a choir t-shirt.

Women’s Choir: Black tights, black closed toed flats (think ballet flats), shorts/leggings and t-shirt to be worn under school provided robe.

Cantabile: Black tights, black closed toed flats (think ballet flats), shorts/leggings and t-shirt to be worn under school provided robe.

Concert Choir: Women– Black tights, black closed toed flats (think ballet flats), shorts/leggings and t-shirt to be worn under school provided robe. Men– black dress pants, black socks, black dress shoes and t-shirt to be worn under school provided robe.

Choirs will each be assigned a choir concert time. Each choir consisting of both cohorts and distance learners (should they feel comfortable) will come together to showcase their concert music. This way, we can safely get together to make music on our concert night! More detailed information to be coming soon. A link to watch will also be emailed home the week of the concert and posted on Schoology.

Concert Times- Thurs. Mar. 18th

Livia’s Seasoning Salt – Please consider supporting the FHS Choir Program!

Fundraising

Each year, the FHS Choir Program does a variety of fundraising. One of our favorite fundraisers we are always selling is the amazing Livia’s Seasoning Salt! This seasoning is a perfect staple to have in your spice cabinet, we promise you’ll find so many ways to use it. The cost is $10 for a shaker and $5 goes towards the choir program. Livia’s is available for your singer to purchase when they’re at school. You can also send us an email and we’ll make sure it gets to you!

Closing thoughts moving forward

As you can see we will have a couple more events on our calendar. We will continue planning and preparing the ever popular Cabaret as well as the Awards Concert. We will assess the possibility of in person audiences for those events per district and state guidelines for health.
